Alaina has mono. My 8-year-old got “the kissing disease”; presumably she caught the virus in another fashion. She couldn’t walk around the store with me on Saturday, pausing every third step to rest and actually sit down on the floor, then she fell asleep in the car around 6:00pm Monday and sat inside while the rest of the family ran errands. Highly irregular. So I took her in to the Dr on Tuesday morning for her persistent cough, and they administered a finger prick for a few drops of blood (she was very vocal about how much this hurt) and mono was the diagnosis. Ugh. There’s no way to tell how long it will last and there’s no medicine to take. I guess it’s up to my Mom instincts as to when she can go back to school. Luckily next week is Spring Break so she can recuperate without missing any more school. I’m sure she will be well after lounging around for 2 weeks and can go back to school March 30.
Claire had an exciting week at school. They had their own Spring Break theme and traveled and experienced great things. Each of these days they could dress up. Here are Cowgirl, Movie Star, and Pajama Days. I didn’t take a picture of Hawaii Day.
I was pretty pleased with the cowgirl outfit because, right before drifting off to sleep the night before, I remembered I had some red fabric with little white stars. So I got up a little bit earlier in the morning, made a too-huge bandana and some strips for hair bows. Cute! For movie-star day Claire was dead-set on wearing a black dress (how does she know about the little black dress? She’s so fashion forward!) but it is a long-sleeved winter dress and that day was 70+ so I bent her arm and convinced her to wear a shiny shirt, skirt, and short leggings. She wouldn’t bend on the shoes even though I told her she would be uncomfortable in them. How could she wear non-matching shoes?!? So that was fun for her.
Bryn’s 3rd quarter ended for Preschool. I really liked her buddies this time, as opposed to last quarter when she was paired with some real losers. Bryn had a few difficult days (especially time-change week) and cried a few times. But the girls said she really improved and I’m looking forward to the papers they will mail to me about their assessment of her. (Child assessments written teenagers can be quite hilarious.) Here are Bryn’s buddies this last quarter.
I think Bryn has really benefitted from preschool and I have signed her up for next year. It’s one-on-one attention, extremely structured, educational, and free! Love it.
